Sultry. Steamy. Steady. Sexy.

All hallmarks of an intense relationship.

"This is the perfect thing in my life," Melissa Etheridge told her screaming, adoring fans at American Music Theatre on Monday night. "You are the longest relationship I've ever had in my life. And it's been a good one."

Given the passion, the life, the intensity Etheridge puts into her live performances, that's not at all surprising.

Monday night's sold-out show illustrated perfectly the pairing of Etheridge's smoking-hot stage presence and her wildly enthusiastic fans. Etheridge fed off their energy all night long, and the charged atmosphere reflected it.

Of course, it also helped that "Fearless Love," the new disc her current tour supports, is a sink-your-teeth-into-it return to the artist's hard-rocking roots.

Etheridge went to that well three times to open the show, starting big and getting bigger with "We Are the Ones," the title track and "Miss California." All three songs are classic Etheridge, with driving beats and lyrics filled with lust and longing.

Delivered in her distinctively smoldering vocal style, Etheridge's songs quickly identify her as a stylistic sister to Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan. But there are other influences at work in her music. Sometimes you can pick out a little ZZ Top here, a little Who there, maybe some U2 somewhere else.

Fully half the show was tracks from "Fearless Love." Featured prominently in the middle of the show was "Indiana" -- arguably the new album's finest offering. Part soulful ballad, part flat-out rocker, it tells the tale of a small-town girl who makes tough choices to overcome her start in life. She also rolled out the breathlessly sexy "The Wanting of You" and hard-charging "Nervous" to great effect.

That's not to say Etheridge ignored her older catalog. Well-supported by a new touring band -- guitarist Peter Thorn, bassist Sean Hurley, keyboardist Chris Fowke and drummer Blair Sinta -- Etheridge turned her raw energy onto the likes of "If I Wanted To," "Come to My Window," the cancer anthem "I Run for Life," "I'm the Only One" and "Bring Me Some Water."

From the time she entered the theater, walking onto the stage through the heart of the raucous crowd, pressing as much flesh as she could, Etheridge delivered on her mission to entertain and enthrall.

She ended her evening with another introspective turn on "Gently We Row," all about searching for the answers in life and finding your way home.

"It's just my simple philosophy of life, love and family," she told the crowd.

For Etheridge, who played for nearly 2 hours and 45 minutes, touching innumerable hands and bantering with the fans, that home is on the stage, surrounded by the fans who love her.

good morning ya'll!!!

this is NOT going to be the review ~ because its 11:14am and i am needing to sleep some more before tonight's show in bethesda. BUT i will say that last night was perhaps one of the best MLE shows i have ever been too. but parts of that were the friends involved.

major part was the immediate first-song stage rush and standing at the waist-high stage from around 8:15 until the end.....it was crazy. i probably shouldnt have done it, but really? after 3 missed shows...there was no stopping me being as close as possible.

you will forgive me if it takes a moment to collect my thoughts about the whole show and everything, being at a melissa concert is a little like church for me. and i want to do the review and the 2hr 41mins complete justice. tho i just read the review and it was perfect...

oh yeah. "Heart of a Woman"? like dying and going to heaven. by far the most amazing performance (IMHO) of the show.

Hands down it was the best show EVER....awsome setlist...great stage time (no security hassels LOL), good friends.....sigh.....it was a long day and we finally got home at 4am after driving back to Pittsburgh and I have had only about 3 hrs sleep and hit the ground running again today LOL I too will try to get some rest and gather my thoughts and write up a review too....but I did get some pictures I think no video though since I decided the sound was not good where we were at and I just wanted to enjoy the night so if anyone got the last song on video I would really really like to see it

Yeah that was Dakota...she started going to see Melissa with me when she was barely 14...she learned stage rushing with the best of them LOL....she has gone to 16 concerts with me in the past 4 years...she has grown up at the stage LOL she is now 18!....this was our last concert before she heads off to college and to start life "on her own" all I really really wanted to hear was Gently We Row....that song means sooooo much to me as it relates to her...when it got to the part "I wrapped my arms 'round my own daughter..." I gave Dakota a huge hug and Knew she is going to be ok out there in the world....someone told me later that Melissa had come back and was standing right in front of us watching but I missed that part...

PHENOMENAL show... best MLE concert ever for me for so many reasons... All I can say is thank you, Melissa, for "Sleep While I Drive"... We did laugh and think of you as we went back through the tunnels here in PA on the way home.

Beyond that right now, I'm with buggie-- need to digest it still! But WOW....WOW...

We met some lovely folks last night, and yeah, Janet-- it was a lovely moment... and buggie, your sign was funny-- Glad you got to enjoy finally. (Oh yeah, and to the cute girl that was all up close to me and dancing last night-- can I have your number?? Love ya!! Glad to have another great show with u! )

Wow...amazing show, from boot view stood at Melissa's feet for 3 hours...cool boots, and mama looks quite fine I probably have seen MLE 10 times and this was, by far, the best....I LOVE this new cd...can I say it may be my favorite ??? ..... and holding my baby and dancing to the music .....just hot,hot,hot night had by all....


edit to add...... It was so nice to meet Tigger, Dakota (nice to share the stage with you both ) and Sandy- you are a sweetie, just as I figured you would be ....

Thank you to the moderator for setting me up an account. I came to this forum and saw this thread and instantly wanted to reply only to find registerations are temporarily down but she hooked me up. Thanks!

My partner and I went to this show, we were slightly left of center (about 5 or 6 people over from the confetti girl). I've seen her probably 10x or so and I have to say this was just awesome! She slapped my hand twice that night and I have video of the 2nd time! I've joked that if that happened to me 15yrs ago I'd probably have fainted or squealed...age has calmed me Anyway, we rushed the stage also.... sort of slowly b/c we were taking pictures and then just decided to stay when no one told us to move. I have tons of photos and video of the Bring me Some Water thru till the end. I'm still figuring out how to properly convert them as I shot them on my iphone. I'll try to get some photos up soon.

I want to thank the moderator as well! I was at the concert too and wanted to be able to share! I d idnt get many pictures and the few I did get arent great. I was center section, fifth row to the left ... I cant stand very well because of a knee problem but I did stand as much as I could!! I loved what I was able to see and I loved hearing it all!! My first time seeing her. 3 of my party went and sat in the lobby all peed off because they couldnt see. I stayed, I stood, I saw! I wanted to rush the stage but I fall too easily and I didnt wanna take people down with me lol
