Hyannis Set List 29th August

Postby originalangie on Sat Aug 29, 2009 8:54 pm

Here we go she chopped and changed this quite a bit from the original but here is how it ended:

All American Girl
Message To Myself
No Souvenirs
I Need To Wake Up
Sleep While I Drive
Chrome Plated Heart
Royal Station (on harmonica) she was going to play Unexpected Rain but Dawn, Mare, Kat Frank and I requested this, she obliged :clapping: :clapping:
Weakness in Me
Come to my Window
All The Way to Heaven (setlist says Heroes and Friends) she changed this to ATWTH as a tribute to Teddy Kennedy but she started the first few bars of Heroes and Friends.
Testify (changed due to sign held up should have been Meet Me in The Back)
If I Wanted To

Will upload videos later
Cover Song, Daniel and Tiny Dancer by Elton John (on piano)
I Run for Life
I Want to come over
The Only One
Bring Me Some Water
Like the way I do
Piece of my heart

Great show, great crowd as always at the Melody Tent she said this is her favorite place to play, I can see why what a breath of fresh air after AC.

Waaaaay cool :thumbs up: :) 8-) Thank you very much ((Angie)) :)

By the way...if anyone wants to post a review of any of the shows they have a place to do so at the Live Nation Site http://www.livenation.com/reviews?bv_id=a15532 ;) it couldn't hurt ...providing they're good one of course  Just spreadin the love and sharing the joy.
:D I had a feeling this was going to be a good show...I enjoy that area of the planet quite a bit...some places more than others...just a personal pref and overall it has been quite a special weekend/past few days...memorable for sure for may reasons. :rose: 8-) Enjoy the rest of the tour ((all)) :peace:  :group hug:

Angie, thanks for posting the set list. Another great show at the Cape Cod Melody Tent last night, energy was the best show yet and I felt this was Melissa's most engaging show yet. The crowd was loose and energetic and much of the venue spent the entire show on their feet. Great show, Melissa, and despite the "overkill" on our request for Royal Station, thanks for playing it, it was warmly appreciated. :)

Etheridge alone but full of life
By Gwenn Friss
gfriss@capecodonline.com
August 30, 2009 - 2:46 AM

HYANNIS – Winds buffeted the Cape Cod Melody Tent last night, but drew little notice from the crowd inside that spent more than two hours wrapped in the embrace of Melissa Etheridge’s “Alive and Alone Tour.”

Etheridge was magic.

There was a magnetism between her and the full house, as she sang about love, loss, the victory of beating cancer and the importance of speaking out – be it for peace, to save the planet, or to ensure equal rights for everyone, including gay and lesbian people.

This tour is exciting because, with only her playing guitar, piano or harmonica, you can hear every word of the poetic lyrics. Her guitar solos – if you can solo when accompanying yourself – are kick-butt and the piano is gorgeous. Plus, since she’s working alone she can change up the set list so you never really know what you’ll get out of her 21 years of recording. She includes a cover or two from a different artist at each show on the tour. Last night, in a nod to Tropical Storm Danny, it was Elton John’s “Daniel” and “Tiny Dancer.”

Etheridge is working on songs now for a new CD. But on this tour, the familiar ones she sang reflect her life: coming out as a lesbian in 1993, battling cancer in 2004, and a 2007 Academy Award for “I Need To Wake Up,” the song she wrote for Al Gore’s film on global warming, “An Inconvenient Truth.” Etheridge gives an amazing amount of herself on stage, talking about everything from beating cancer to her politics.

The crowd’s cheering could likely be heard in nearby Hyannisport when Etheridge lauded Sen. Edward M. Kennedy’s 45 years of leadership, looked skyward and dedicated “All the Way to Heaven” to the powerful Democrat who died late Tuesday at his Hyannisport home and whose funeral was held yesterday.

Etheridge is mesmerizing not only to listen to but to watch. Her voice ranges from a she-wolf’s deep reverberating growl to a sweet and tender vulnerability. Her face registers the words she is singing, whether she’s impishly rolling her eyes or staring out with determination as her voice registers the final, quiet line of “Testify” about the need to keep the dream of equality alive.“

I Run for Life,” the moving and rousing song about working to help others beat breast cancer, was an emotional tour de force and drew a solid two minutes of cheering. She stood, arms thrown out and head back as if to take it all in.

Afterwards, she enthused, “Have I told you guys lately how much I love you?”

From many performers, that kind of thing would induce a collective cringe. But somehow, this politically active mother of four pulls it off. That kind of intimacy doesn’t sound phony coming from someone who wears so much of her heart on her sleeve.

Etheridge sang a score of songs in two solid hours on stage. With no opening act, she truly is “Alive and Alone,” but she still came back when the crowd clapped and stomped for more.

Wow, that show sounds like it was incredible. The covers were amazing! I wish we could have split ourselves in two and been at this show as well but we had other plans and, well, and no tickets for Hyannis...LOL.

We had fun at the Gavin Degraw & Joss Stone concert we were at on Saturday night. We cleaned the beach at Asbury Park and were then given VIP passes into the concert for free! Then by some stroke of luck, we found ourselves at a meet & greet with Gavin & Joss. Too incredible. Kris says to Gavin, "Our two favorite artists are Melissa Etheridge and Gavin Degraw." To which he replied "Oh really? Do you guys know Philip Sayce?" We both perked up and said "Of course, we've spoken to him many times after Melissa's shows." He went on to say that he used to hang with Philip and Kenny Aronoff in LA a while back. We ended up chatting with he and Joss for about 3 minutes and took some pictures, got some autographs. They were both incredible to see live. And Joss is only 22??? That girl can saaagng, and as Kris said, she is s'mokin' hot.

Glad you guys had fun in Hyannis. That's going to be stop on the next tour for us for sure.
Live every moment...

I too held up a sign too for Royal Station, but at the same time I held up a sign for Giant. We got Royal Station but at the expense of An Unexpected Rain, which I have not heard L&A yet. Two more chances for that one and Giant on the electric.

This was my first show in Hyannis, and I will definitely go back. There was a great crowd at the Tent last night, and watching the rain come down and the tent shake a little made for an exciting evening. As usual, the cover was incredible, been waiting for a little Elton on the piano.

I would have lost it during Royal Station....that's a great request (wish it could have been saved for Norman LOL)....it's just one of those songs of hers that, when I hear it, it just sucks me into it. I sway back and forth and by the end, I'm all over the place. I can not always listen to it while driving because I don't want an accident. lol Just in my top 5, which surprises me sometimes because MLE has SOOO many greats....but that one has it's own feel to it. LOVE IT. :)
